Face masks are a controversial topic at the moment. Some people wear them incorrectly, others refuse to wear them at all. There has also been a huge amount of misinformation about them.
So microbiologist Rich Davis sent a Tweet to demonstrate how putting on masks can significantly halt the spread of respiratory droplets.

In the demonstration Dr Davis talked, sang, coughed and sneezed into agar cultures which he held close to his face. For some, he wore a surgical mask, for others he didn’t.
The results were astonishing, in the cultures where he hadn’t worn a mask, there were clear signs of growth where his breath droplets had landed, however, in the cultures where he wore the mask, there was nothing.
He also demonstrated how keeping a safe distance affects the spread of cough droplets. From the distances of two feet, four feet, and six feet, Dr. Davis coughed hard for 15 seconds with and without a mask. The results are obvious.
The CDC has long warned that COVID-19 spreads through the transfer of respiratory droplets, and from this demonstration, we know that wearing a mask very likely blocks these droplets that carry the virus.
